I have had a lifelong interest in art and design. After some studio art at University of North Carolina and an Associate of Arts degree in Interior Design, I studied with many interesting artists in the Washington DC area. It was, however, studying some of the artists I most admire that influenced me the most – Vuilliard, Morandi and Fairfield Porter.

My landscape paintings are often inspired by living abroad and trips to Europe but, just as easily, they can be of the nearby Virginia countryside. The light on a crusty building or a village interests me as well.

The still lifes are painted directly from some naturally occurring scene or from organic shapes arranged in my house or studio.

As to the subject of mediums, I enjoy acrylic and oil. I like to try new approaches, something which is evident in the variety of my work. In some paintings, I use ink to emphasize form. In others I use thick paint brushes or palette knives to build impasto.

My goal is to bring simplicity, texture and rich color to my paintings and to search for new, stimulating subjects.
