I was a potter for 25 years before turning full-time to painting. My husband’s career takes us to Spain, and it has often been the Spanish landscape, its architecture, and its soft, half-glazed red clay pots that have informed my art. My paintings are now abstract, but many of them emerge from the contrasts and tensions of the Spanish landscape and culture, rocky and fertile, arid and irrigated, the arched gloom of the churches, the blue and ochre coastline, pungent wild rosemary and sweet oranges, and that always luminous Mediterranean light.
