Stephen Rapp appears as soloist and collaborator at the organ and harpsichord throughout the greater New York area each season. He has also toured in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, England, India and Japan as well as the eastern half of the United States. This season includes appearances with the Yale Camerata and Orchestra New England and performances of the Duruflé Requiem with the Trinity Chorale, Trinity, Southport, and the Canterbury Society, New York City. His most recent CD performance as soloist and continuo player was on “Christmas in Germany” with the American Classical Orchestra and the Men and Boys Choir of Christ Church, Greenwich, CT, under the direction of Thomas Crawford on the Musical Heritage Society label.
Stephen Rapp received the Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate in organ from the Eastman School of Music and the Master of Musical Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in organ from Yale University School of Music with certificates from Yale’s Institute of Sacred Music. He also studied at the University of Cologne as a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) grant recipient. Director of Music at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stamford, CT, Stephen also has served at the St. Paul’s on the Green, Norwalk, CT, from 1977 to 1981 and at Christ’s Church, Rye, NY, from 1981 until going to St. John’s in 1992. He has taught music history at Concordia College, Bronxville, NY and given workshops and master classes for local chapters and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists.
